What is Tulsi Tea?
Tulsi tea is made from the leaves of the holy basil (tulsi) plant. Native to Southeast Asia and bearing the scientific name Ocimum tenuiflorum, tulsi is the Sanskrit word for the holy basil plant. While not as sweet as the basil that many people use for cooking purposes, tulsi has an impressive variety of other uses in traditional medicine, including as a tea. The active ingredient, eugenol, in tulsi is a component that delivers major benefits. This tea is considered extremely healthy and has been an important part of Ayurvedic medicinal practice for thousands of years.
In 2006 It was the first time I was introduced to Tulsi tea actually in Hyderabad India. It is a fascinating tea with wonderful taste, we began each morning with a cup or two with some naan bread. Visiting my friend Sanjay we had many wonderful conversations over a cup of Tulsi tea. While talking with the local community I learned that Tulsi tea has a long heritage and they’re quite proud of the product. They take great pride in making sure that it is totally organic with only the finest handling and planting available.
